Waste comes in many different forms: from errors, defects, inspection, rework, and complaint management...to unused capacity.
The City of Ottawa purchased the CPR line, including the Prince of Wales Bridge, during the early 2000s for the O-Train project. Ten years later the bridge remains unused and their are no concrete plans for its future.
A successful business makes process improvement a part of its culture. Every aspect of the business is continually examined to cut out waste and improve quality and profitability. It aims to solve the root causes of problems, not just fix the symptoms. The steps of process improvement vary by industry, but strategic planning and leadership play key roles. This holds even more true in the public sector where 'survival of the fittest' and competition are foreign notions. But it can be done...
Intent
Intent: Present observations, ideas and improvement opportunities. Some may have merit, others not. Debate and challenging the status quo is the name of the game. Without these, City financial woes will only grow.
Assess, critique, judge, comment, contribute: there are no scared cows. Thank you for visiting, come again!
